Jules Odendahl-James is an artist/scholar/teacher who has been making theater in the Triangle for the past 20 years. As a director and dramaturg, she specializes in art+science collaborations, documentary media & performance, and works by women playwrights. She is a founding member of Durham's Bulldog Ensemble Theater and was a long-time Associate Artistic Director at Durham's Manbites Dog Theater, which closed its doors in 2018 after 31 seasons. Recent directing includes As You Like It for Duke University, Men On Boats  by Jaclyn Backhaus for Justice Theatre Project and In A Word by Lauren Yee for Bulldog Ensemble Theatre. Her recent new play dramaturgy has been with playwright Jacqueline Lawton on XIXEdges of Time; So Goes We and Behold! A Negress. She is an Associate Member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers (SDC), and a member of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA). At Duke University, she is a lecturer in Theater Studies, a member of the Disability Access Initiative, a Teaching for Equity Fellow, and the faculty advisor for the Me Too Monologues.
