The power of documentary theatre is to tell stories of the human condition, to shed light and bring a community together on topics that range from world events–the 2013 Boston Marathon and a hero who died on 9/11–to personal stories of being an immigrant, a survivor of domestic violence, or dealing with mental illness. The genre can also address a lighter end of the spectrum–exploring what it means to be a Red Sox fan, work at a townie bar, or the secret life of hairdressers. No matter the subject, the dialogue is authentic, raw, and real. In this session, playwright and director Lisa Rafferty uses her expertise in the genre to assert its place in the theatrical world.
